Breast Cancer Awareness – Temple B’nai Sholom Sisterhood
The Temple B’nai Sholom Sisterhood is very proud to have designed a pin signifying the fight against breast cancer for all women and men. One in nine women will confront this enemy. We hope to contribute to their victory with the sale of this pin. The profits are donated to local initiatives as well as international breast cancer awareness and women’s health initiatives sponsored by the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ). The L’Chaim pin is an eternal circle surrounding a Chai signifying “Life” in Hebrew upon which rests the breast cancer “pink ribbon”. The design idea for the pin was created by B.B. Anders and Sharon Kunitz, who then gave the project life.

While doctors and researchers continue to learn more about the causes and prevention of this devastating disease, there are things women can do now. Regular self-examinations and mammograms are the most effective tools we have for early breast cancer detection and annual pap smears for cervical cancer detection. Recent studies also suggest that a healthy, low-fat diet and regular exercise may even decrease the risk of breast cancer. Jewish commitments to life and health impel us to work to lower the risk of breast cancer in OUR lives today.
