The Hanukah gathering Friday night at the Temple brought many of us together again to celebrate. We ate a wonderful potluck dinner at tables decorated with blue tablecloths and interesting menorahs. After dinner, we were treated to a magic show, then walked outside to light the enormous menorah, using seven tiki torches this time. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the festivities. Each person’s presence added a lot to the positive energy. Though we were all deeply saddened by the shootings that occured Friday in Connecticut, I found myself reminded that the world is not entirely composed of darkness, but that there exists light in the world which can bring healing and peace to all. When we said the Kaddish during the service, I thought of the victims of violence, as I am sure most of us did. The whole evening proved meaningful for me, and thanks again to all who attended.
